Every year around the holidays we take a break from our normal homeschool routines (we homeschool year round) and spend a week watching movies that teach, entertain, and reinforce important lessons. We chose movies that are worth the time and honor our values. Here’s how it works for us:
We just finished watching the miniseries Roots with our 14 year old son. Great story and very well done. There is some nudity at the very beginning and of course there are scenes of whippings, which some may find disturbing. But all in all, an excellent way to teach about slavery, IMO.

I agree. Heartbreaking but well done. I haven't seen it in years but may need to check it out again.
Plus it has John Amos who wasn't a great actor but he was a Kansas City Chief (briefly) so there's that.
I did NOT know that!
